Newborn Notepad of Helpful Stuff

Are you a new mum to be?
Is this your first baby?

Congratulations, how lovely!

Being pregnant for the first time and having a brand new baby is sometimes a little daunting.  I hope to bring you some helpful information here on this page.  So pop back from time to time for the latest snippets on the maternity and new baby blog!

Possetting

You know the kind of thing - when baby brings back up some of the milk from his feed.  You then get a little concerned because you think there is something wrong or now he may be hungry again!

"Possetting happens when your baby regurgitates a small amount of milk after he has fed.  It is completely normal.  It mostly occurs when air bubbles become trapped during feeds.  Normal winding half way through, and at the end of the feed will usually bring these up, but sometimes a small amount of milk will come up too!

It sometimes helps if you hold baby upright for about 20 minutes after a feed and try and change baby's nappy before the feed so that you don't have to wiggle him about afterwards may help too!" Ann Peters

If you have any concern at all, of course, speak to your Midwife, Health Visitor or Doctor.

Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes

Singing songs, rhymes and lullabies helps the bonding between you and your baby.

Can you remember nursery rhymes?  If you can't then you could try visiting rhymes.org.uk, where you will find help with the lyrics!

Are you ready?

What should you pack?

Well all the obvious stuff, like dressing gown/towelling robe, slippers - but then you don't need me to tell you that!

How about some lip balm?
If you have long hair you may want a hairband for those hot moments!
Some wet wipes too to keep you feeling fresh.

Moments that shouldn't be missed

Remember to take your camera too for that first picture of baby.  Try not to use flash!

Make use of any light there is and if there is daylight hold baby up to the window for some lovely natural light.  Ask the midwife/nurse if she can take a picture of you together.  These are moments that shouldn't be missed.

If you have any ideas, share them with us so that we can add them to this notepad.
