TIPS ON NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY
KEEP BABY WARM
It
is difficult for babies to regulate their body temperature so if you decide you
want pictures taken of your baby with no clothes it is important to keep the
room warm. It is also a good idea to
keep the blankets warm that we will be using to lay baby on – a hot water
bottle comes in handy for this!
I
bring blankets with me and if you want your baby photographed without clothes
you will need to let me know prior to the shoot so that I can wrap them around
a hot water bottle to bring with me.
SOUND
There
is no need to be totally quiet as baby is used to the sounds inside you! Soft music in the background is a good idea then
there is less chance of our chat and the clicks of the camera disturbing baby. Being
relaxed is key to a successful new baby shoot.
FEEDS
It
is quite a good idea to feed baby just prior to the photo shoot as a full baby
is a happy baby! I am always happy to
wait for baby to feed and burp etc so that you get the photographs you want. I always work around you and baby and if I
feel at any time your baby is fretful then I stop everything and wait for
everyone to relax again.
TIME OF DAY
Morning
always seems to be the best time for newborn photo sessions. But you know your baby best and if you feel
afternoon is better then that’s when we will schedule the shoot.
AGE OF BABY
If
it is a very newborn shoot that you want the best time is within the first
fourteen days of your baby’s birth.
HOW LONG DOES A NEWBORN SHOOT TAKE
Newborn
sessions can take up to four hours with waiting for feeds, nappy changes and
settling baby so be prepared!
SAFETY
Babies
are very susceptible to infections, and it is our job to keep them safe. Your baby’s health and safety will always be
foremost in my mind. My props are always
laundered after each shoot and sometimes I will buy new! I will reschedule a shoot if I have a cold. I
am very aware too that babies and new mums sometimes need extra time together
to get used to their routine and am always happy to reschedule for any reason.
